I love living in Allendale over 10 years next year my favorite thing to do is to look at all if the stories in Town. This is better town to live here with all of my friends.

I had been struggling with my addiction for 6 years before I professional help. I thought that I could have sobered up on my own but that wasn't getting me anywhere. Everyone at this Allendale rehab center helped me get better. Now I'm a recovered addict and even volunteering at other centers to help those who have been in my shoes.

i come here all the time to do my groceries and there is also a bunch of great restaurants in the area too. you have a lot in a small area which is always nice!

This little shopping center always has a fun variety of shops and restaurants. They are clean, well maintained, and have extra parking around the right hand side of the building if you have trouble getting a spot.

A wonderful small town center with 10 restaurants of all types. Spotlessly clean, the sidewalks with a beautiful stone brick pattern of black and red. Taking a deep dive, walk to the train station and it's beautiful details in concrete and wood. The Railroads built these beautiful buildings in the 20's and thank goodness will outlive is all.

Allendale Town was once the centre of a busy lead mining industry located in the dale, the atmosphere of the Market Place must have been very different in those days. Pevsner describes it as 'A most attractive little town set amongst trees at the head of a steep bank above the river Allen'. I would agree with this. Tomlinson, however, in his 'Comprehensive Guide to Northumberland' of 1888, has it as 'Allendale Town, or Allenton, as it was formerly written, a straggling, dreary-looking place ....' The transformation due, no doubt, to the demise of the lead mining industry. Down by the riverside, by the footpath, is the drainage outlet for the Blackett Level, a tunnel intended to drain water from the Allenhead mine 7 miles away. It was hoped in the process of digging the tunnel to find new seams of lead. The tunnel was excavated as far as Spartylea, a distance of 5 miles. A plaque attached to the wall by the outlet tells the story.

I had a shot and juice at Beets juice bar and had an appetizer at the nearby Indian restaurant. The Indian restaurant gets packed on Sundays, according to its owner. Both spots had nice employees and owners. Both spots had healthy, tasty items. Beets got me hooked on fresh fruit and vegetable juices & shots. Sorry, no photos from this visit.
